I went out jogging!
Today I went out and ran!
Well, it was more like a jog.
Ok…I hardly jogged at all.
For the first time in YEARS, I went out running. It was me and my sister in law Trish. Trish is an avid runner. She told me the last time she went running (which was over 3 weeks ago) she ran 6 miles! I used to run between 3 – 5 miles, when I ran Cross Country – 20 years Ago!!! This time…we only did 2 miles. It should have been pretty easy for both of us. Nope!
Just so you know, I do walk every day. If I’m not walking out side, I’m walking on the treadmill. I usually walk about 2 – 3 miles, but I do walk…EVERYDAY! I spend a LOT of time in front of my computer so I have to walk. I have to keep moving. I’ve gained between 25 – 30 lbs in the past 6 months just sitting in front of my computer do computer related stuff. (NO - Not Porn!)
Today…that run…kicked my ASS!
Yea…I think I’ll stick with walking. Even if I walk 5 miles and it takes me an hour and a ½, at least I wont feel completely worn out.
So…do you run??

Eyelid twitching
Eyelid twitching
In the past few weeks I’ve noticed that my right eyelid has been twitching a lot more. I didn’t really know why so I did some research on the Internet and it turns out I shouldn’t have been on my computer to do the research. Let me explain.
A few years ago, when I was still working in radio, I was doing a morning show. I would go to bed at 10 or 11pm, get up at 4am, talk into a microphone and stare at a computer screen all day! My eyelid was twitching a lot back then! (between 2005 – 2009) But, when I got this cleaning job I hated, in late 2009, the twitching went away. Weird, huh?
Well, here it is 2011. I’m doing my voice over business full time! I work from home and I am loving it! In my spare time, I also sometimes make silly videos and vlog too. (Youtube/FranksVideoWorld) But, the strange thing is, I noticed that my left eyelid has starting twitch again. I didn’t know why. So when I did some research on line I read that staring at a computer screen all day is one of the causes of eyelid twitching! AND…lack of sleep is another! (Stress, fatigue, and few more causes are a part of it too, but these don’t pertain to me)
Besides looking at a computer screen all day, I do go to bed late (10:30pm, sometimes as late as 11:30pm) and I’m usually up at 5:30am to help get my wife off to work. So I’m only getting about 6 maybe 7 hours of sleep a night.
It is very hard for me NOT to stare at a computer screen all day. REALLY!! I know that I need to take breaks, but I do a lot of research on the Internet and I read a lot of blogs, articles and story’s. Emails, facebook, twitter, Youtube, doing voice overs, auditioning for VO work, making videos, watching videos….
My Computer Is My Life!!!!!
…it’s hard to look away when I love to be connected so much!
Now, here is a little confession. In case you didn’t notice or couldn’t tell, I only have one eye. My left eye is a glass eye. (I won’t go into details as to why I’m blind in my left eye, it happen when I was a child) This is probably why my LEFT eyelid has NEVER twitched! Just my right eye! Just my good eye. Just the eye that is put under a lot of strain. I need to take care of my one good eye because it’s the ONLY eye I have to see out of!
If you have eyelid twitching, like me, the cure is simple. Look away from your computer screen about every ½ hour or so. Let your eyes focus on something else that’s not at a close range. What would be great is if you could look OUTSIDE for a few minutes! Focus on something really far! I read a blog by a doctor that says to live by the 20 – 20 – 20 rule. Every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away, for 20 seconds.
And finally…if you need more sleep to, pretend your 6 years old, GO TO BED early!!! (ha ha)
So, if you’re reading this...thank you! Really…I very much appreciate everyone who reads my blogs!
But…I'm done talking now! So it's ok stop reading this and look at the birds outside your window. It will do your eyes some good.

Why I Like Making Videos!
Why I like makeing videos!
First things first. I am a full time voice actor. I do voice overs from my professional home recording studio. That’s how I make my living so THAT job will always come first!
Being a full time voice actor I am always on my computer. Well…let me rephrase that. I am ALWAYS on my computer!! So much so that my wife thinks I’m obsessed. I am checking my email all the time!! It’s seems like every hour. After all, if I audition for a voice job I need to know if that new client needs his voice over done right away or if it can wait. Most voice jobs need done within 48 hours. Sometimes less, sometimes longer. It just depends on the project.
On the other hand, being a full time voice actor also means I might have down time, sometimes. I don’t win every voice job I audition for. Actually, it’s not even 50 – 50. More like 30 – 70. (but lately it’s been more like 20% wins to – 80% losses) Yep…of all the jobs I audition for I probably win only 20 – 30 present of them. IF THAT!! I have to audition all the time though!
Otherwise, I wouldn’t even get 20%!
Since I sometimes have a little bit of down time, here is where my videos come in.
I love making videos! I really do! When I first started, I was recording a lot of my videos on my web cam camera (or my wife’s lap top camera) But, just before Memorial Day weekend this year, I went out and got a new Kodak Zi8 camcorder. I’ve had this new camera for a few weeks now and I’m still playing around with it. I plan on doing a review of it soon, but ordered a small clip on mic and I want to wait until it gets here first. I want to do a very GOOD review! So it’s coming.
I don’t have a vanity complex. Matter of fact, for a long time, I hated to even look at myself in the mirror! (it had a lot to do with my eyes) But, in the recent years, I’ve really out grown that. I just really like producing and making the videos! I am a big ham!
I don’t really have any set subject on my channel here. This channel (FranksVideoWorld) is not about voice overs. (That’s what my OTHER youtube channel Frank James Bailey is for. If you want to know more about voice overs, check it out sometime) FranksVideoWorld channel isn’t about comedy (although if I do some stupid things sometimes. I will post them here!) This channel isn’t about farming, makeup, or movies. It’s turning out to be more about vloging and family
stuff. A little bit of everything.
I’m trying to upload a video 2 – 3 times a week. Although no set days of the week because I never know for sure how much voice work I get from day to day. For example, Monday and Tuesday of this week (6/13 & 6/14) I was swamped!! I was doing voice over stuff ALL DAY! By Wed. I had a few jobs, so I made a short video. And finally by Thursday, I had nothing! REALLY! Not a single VO job on Thursday! So I did a lot of the paper work side of the business that day.
Anyway...all the videos I make here on FranksVideoWorld should be entraining, silly, informative, thought provoking, and sometimes a little bit stupid. Because that’s the kind of guy I am. I’m silly. I tell stupid jokes. (for example…I responded to this kids video of summer ducks. I said…this video isn’t what it’s all quaked up to be! You see…stupid jokes!) I don't think I'll swear or talk about religion or politics in my videos. (it’s like an old rule I learned in radio) So my channel will me mostly family friendly.
If you’re a new subscriber…thanks!
If you haven’t subscribed yet…please do! Not every video of mine will be as entertaining as the next, but I will keep it updated!
And who knows, maybe my channel will turn into something in the future. Maybe it will mold itself into something different. Maybe I’ll get a great idea and just roll with it!
After all…this channel is MY WORLD. This is Franks Video World!!
Thanks for watching my videos, and thinks for reading my blog.
Have a great weekend!

Staying Healthy
Staying Healthy
I am a voice actor. I do voice overs. I am self employed! But I also like to make videos on Youtube. This blog is mostly about my voice over business, but it also has a LOT to do with my videos as well.
Well, it’s been a little over a week that I haven’t went to work at my old “day” job. That means it’s been a little over a week that I HAVEN’T walked between 7 – 8 miles in one day! That’s right, when I was working my cleaning job I figured out that I was walking between 7 – 8 miles (sometimes up to 9 miles) everyday!! (well, 5 days a week anyway)
Thanks right, I may NOT have liked my cleaning job but it sure did keep me healthy! Between Dec. of 2009 and May of 2011 I lost about 25 lbs doing that job. I ate just about whatever I wanted and I couldn’t keep weight on! I hovered about 200 lbs for a very long time. And I loved it!
But, now that I’m doing voice overs full time, now that I’m in front of a computer for most of the day again, now that I’m NOT exercising , I’ve gained over 10 lbs since I’m not working that other job. (that was LAST WEEK!) Yet…as of this morning I’m 211 lbs! (I’m sure the chocolate chip cookie my wife made last night doesn’t help matters none)
The bad this is, right now, I’m basically still eating whatever I want, but….I’m just not moving! I need to exercise! If I continue down this same path, I’ll gain a LOT of weight very quickly.
Here’s the thing…my voice IS my job! I make a living doing my voice overs! So that means I have to take care of my voice AND my body! After all, if I’m sick, I can’t work! (and I might lose out on a VO job if I’m sick) Not only that, but my VOICE is a business! If I can’t walk up a set of stairs because I’m too fat, how can I meet a new client who wants my voice?
Yes…my VOICE is my money maker. But it’s my BODY that gets me from place to place so my VOICE can do its job.
If you do voice overs, you have to take care of your BODY too! Heck, you really should take care of yourself no matter what kind of job you do.
I realize now is that no matter what you do in life, you have to take care of yourself.
I’ve been off my old “day” job for a week now. I love doing voice overs full time and being at home all the time now. But I’m still not used to NOT being on a set schedule. (I used to get up at 5:30am, be at work at 7am, be home by 2pm…you get the idea) I’m going to fix this next week!
I’m going to make a plan to run / walk / workout (or something) for at least an hour Mon – Fri. I might not get up to 7 or 8 miles like I used to, but at least it will be something.
If you’re self-employed, make sure and take care of the parts that make money for you. More importantly, take care of your whole body too!

Now is the time…was it fate?
I know this blog is NOT about videos or something like that, but I am a VOICE ACTOR...FIRST!
This blog has taken me over a year and 1/2 to write! It's a big part of my life!!! Enjoy!!!!
Was this fate?
Let me ask you….
Do you have a goal? Have you ever had a goal? Have you ever had a passion to pursue what you really want in life and the drive to make it happen, no matter how long it takes?
When I was in high school all I ever wanted to do was be a radio DJ. I started off DJing night clubs and weddings but I eventually went down the path of my dream. Between 1988 and 2009 I worked in markets all over Ohio. Cleveland, Canton, Youngstown, Toledo, Findlay and Celina.
In February of 2009 I was let go from my last radio job. I was unemployed for over 9 months. At that time I tried to make doing voice overs my full time job. I soon found out I wasn’t ready yet. Oh, I had the experience! But I only got a few voice jobs here and there because I didn’t have the right equipment I needed to get the good VO jobs nor the money to buy it.
In December of 2009 I was hired by this cleaning company. Basically I was cleaning toilets and mopping floors. This was the most physical job I ever had in my life! At times I felt like I was lowering my standers because usually, the only people who have jobs like this, are the creepy guys who can’t get ANY other job! Like maybe a guy who just got out of prison or something. Not me! Not a guy with a 20 year radio career!! I HATED IT!!! At the time, my daughter was 2 and I needed to do what I had to do to support my family. So I did it!
So, in Dec. 09 this company placed me in a factory. It took me an hour and 10 minutes to drive there. But, my wife was happy I had a job! (take it from me guys, keep your wife happy!)
The funny thing is, right about this time, some new voice jobs started coming my way. So I was up to 11pm almost 5 nights a week and getting up at 4:30am so I can make my hour commute to my “day” job. It was very rough! But I knew that voice overs is what I wanted to do. In order to make that happen, I had to work 8, sometimes 10 hours cleaning and then 3 – 4 hours doing voices overs!
But I ever lost sight of my dream!
By May of 2010, I was placed at a closer factory. The same factory my wife worked at. The drive time went from over an hour, down to only 25 minutes. And more and more voice overs jobs kept coming my way! Small jobs, but a voice over job is a voice over job! Small or not!! Now, things are slowly stating to look up.
All this time, I was never losing sight of my dream of eventually quitting my cleaning job and doing voice overs full time again!
Between that time and December of 2010, I worked my “day” job and did my voice overs at night. All the while, my wife and I were planning on moving! We finally did move in Dec. of 10. Now…the drive to my “day” job was only 10 minutes!
Things were looking better everyday! And, as always, I was NEVER losing focus of the main goal!
Ever since we moved, my wife and I had talked about what needed to happen if I were to quit my cleaning job and I was going to do voice overs full time. We needed to sell the old house, and I need to have a good head start on my VO business. In other words, I couldn’t just sit at home all day. I actually had to MAKE MONEY and make this a JOB!! And I was going to go on 2nt shift at my cleaning job. (as an insurance policy for my wife) This all had to happen BEFORE the summer of 2011 because my daughter will be going to pre-school then.
Meantime the VO gigs got bigger (longer scripts and better paying) and more of them too. ALWAYS STAY FOCUSED!
Now check this out…we sold the old house last month! My daughter Paige will be going to pre-school for the first time NEXT week!
So, my next step was to go on 2nt shift at the “cleaning job”, right? After all, that was part of the “PLAN”, right? Well….I wont be able to!
As of last night (Tue. May 24) I was “let go” from my day job. Rather then go into a bitter battle as of why I think they let me go vs. what they think, I’m going to say this.
Does it really matter?
No, it doesn’t!
I know deep down inside I didn’t really WANT to go on 2nt shift anyway. Hell, I didn’t want to do that job AT ALL! I did it because I had to!
On the other hand, it really makes me wonder…why? Is this fate?
What I mean is…
…is this Gods way of telling me, THIS time…NOW….I’m ready! I mean, come on, it’s as if ALL the stars all lining up for me! It’s just…
…well, weird how it’s all working out the way I wanted.
They say, if you want to hear God laugh, tell him your plans. Well, honestly, all my plans are going the way I wanted them to. I don’t hear him laughing! I;m not mocking God. I;m just saying, maybe he’s helped me along this long journey.
For the past year, I never lost sight of my goal, I never lost focus! I stayed determined!
Now…I’m here!!!
Will there be times when the voice over gigs are slow! Yes…every voice over artist knows that.
Will I have to get a part-time job in the evenings? Maybe, but I hope not. On the other hand, I do know, if I had to get another job, I can handle it. After what I’ve been though in the past year and ½, I can handle just about anything!
My goal has ALWAYS been to do voice overs full time.
In 2009, I wasn’t quite ready yet.
Now….in May of 2011…I am!
Look out world, here I come!
